To whom it may concern
As Councillor of the Bracken Ridge Ward, I wish to lend my support to the Junior Tennis Association submission for Healthy Queensland Awards funding to assist with the development of a tennis program for children in Bracken Ridge and surrounding district.
The Junior Tennis Association (JTA) is committed to delivering a balanced training program for primary school children, providing fitness and nutritional advice.
With the cooperation of several schools, JTA has assisted with the upgrade of tennis courts, providing improved access to facilities and utilisation of existing facilities.
The proposed curriculum would encourage healthy lifestyles amongst the participants, which addresses the well documented childhood obesity epidemic and would be available to children who would not be able to meet the financial costs associated with sport.
The program would cater for 120 students from schools in the local area and the costs of each child’s coaching would be subsidised through the course. JTA hopes to also subsidise coaching within the school environment and provide the equipment necessary for implementation such as racquets, balls, hats and a water dispenser.
Should the submission be favourable, I believe JTA will play an important role in our local schools in addressing childhood obesity, encouraging physical activity and healthy eating habits and allowing those less fortunate an opportunity to experience organised sport.
I encourage Healthy Queensland Awards to support this commendable Association and the contribution they make to the local community.
Therefore I ask that you give your favourable consideration to this worthwhile project.
Kind Regards
Amanda Cooper
