Tennis – A Hit at St. Joseph’s

“Tennis has become a smash hit at our school” says St. Joseph’s – Bracken Ridge, School Principal Mr Martin Wilkie.

“In 2005, the school appointed Teddy Bednarek as school coach and since then some rather exciting things have developed. Teddy organised a ‘make over’ for the school court and enlisted several parents to assist with a working bee. With the assistance of the Lincom Group, who provided the finance for improvements, our tennis court surface was repaired, a new tennis net and posts were installed, the fence was repaired and the surrounding area was cleaned up!” adds Martin. “This ‘make-over” and Teddy’s coaching has raised the profile of tennis within the school. This tennis programme has certainly engendered a lot of interest”

Currently, there are lessons available before and after school and already about fifty students are taking part weekly. All students involved in the 2005 programme received participation medallions from Teddy and the Lincom Group at a school assembly last December.

“More excitement awaits the students who will now be part of the Junior Catholic Lawn Tennis Association School fixtures. St Joseph’s is fielding six teams” says Martin delightedly “Not bad for a school that did not have any tennis profile before Teddy came along and played his ‘ace’!”

And according to Teddy there are further big plans for the school including the introduction of Toddle Tennis Program for all the pre-school children during their regular lesson time.

Go St Joseph’s!
